Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: Wanna Grow Old in Paris

This is called ‘Wanna Grow Old in Paris’…

Who doesn’t, right?

– Damian Lewis at Hoxton Hall

Indeed.

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to share a “Song of the Week” post last week—but I promise I had a very good excuse: a four-day getaway to Paris! As my t-shirt proudly declares below, “Paris is always a good idea.” And it truly is—one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world.

I felt incredibly lucky to revisit Notre Dame, to be dazzled once again by the Impressionist masterpieces at the Musée d’Orsay, to get lost on the side streets of the Latin Quarter, and to have a drink (or two) at the legendary Café de Flore.

All of this brings me to today’s choice for Damian Lewis’ “Song of the Week”: Wanna Grow Old in Paris. Because really—who wouldn’t?

Here’s what Damian had to say about the song when he dropped it as the first single from his EP, which came out just after the Paris Olympics last year. Continue reading “Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: Wanna Grow Old in Paris”

I feel extremely privileged to have been a part of Damian’s fantastic first ever gig in London exactly three years ago. So, please join me at Omeara London, a truly beautiful and  intimate music hall, today to revisit every single detail I remember from that utterly exciting evening.

Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis at Hoxton Hall

As we can’t wait for Damian to drop a single and make an announcement about his second album,  today’s Throwback Thursday is a fantastic evening at Hoxton Hall in March 2023 with Damian and his brilliant band.

I had a 48-hour lightning trip to London for fun with fan friends and a fantastic evening of music at Hoxton Hall in East End with the one and only Damian Lewis and his fabulous band. And when I asked my blog mate Gingersnap before my trip that whether she thought I was crazy because I am flying to London for 48 hours, I got this response.

“You’re not crazy. But you have a new name. Groupie!”

Seriously, how many times do you need to travel to see a musician in action to qualify as a groupie? 🙂

It was such a magical night and I am ready to tell you all about how our Ginger Elvis has ruled on stage and off – he has made time for everyone, his guests and his fans, after the gig. He had pictures taken, gave autographs as well as bear hugs.

Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis at The Tabernacle London

“Jazz is a broad church. That’s why we chose a Tabernacle. Place of residence. Place of meeting. Tent of congregation. Tent of meeting.”

-Damian Lewis

Well, ladies and gentlemen, exactly two years ago, I had a 72-hour lightning trip to London for a special weekend with fan friends and a fantastic evening of music at The Tabernacle London in Notting Hill with the one and only Damian Lewis. It was such a night with our Ginger Elvis rocking on the stage and off – he made time for everyone, VIPs and fans alike, after the gig.So please come join me in the beautiful and inspiring  music hall that is The Tabernacle London, and live or re-live (if you were lucky  enough to be there) every single detail from that glorious evening… And don’t get surprised that I am talking about A Spy Among Friends and The Radleys as Damian’s upcoming projects. They were upcoming projects two years ago and I haven’t changed a word in my original write-up .

Wanna Grow Old in Paris: A Love Story Between A Woman, A Man, And A City

The only thing that has made me, a true Olympics junkie, feel okay about Paris Olympics coming to a close, has been waking up to this very post! I’m thrilled that Damian is dropping a Live EP of his Mission Creep Tour later this month and I find it utterly smart to drop the first single “Wanna Grow Old in Paris” on the closing day of the Olympics in Paris.

Now, we all know the narrator in the song, the woman who wanted to grow old in Paris. We also know Helen was all of the things Damian talks about in his Instagram post and more. And while she did not have the chance to grow old in Paris, Damian told the audience at his gig at The Tabernacle in London in November 2022 that she managed to do some of the things he sings about in the song.
