Band of Brothers at 23: Revisiting Dick Winters

Damianista’s note: Band of Brothers is 23 years old. Currahee!

As one of the most iconic mini-series of all times, Band of Brothers may have turned 23 but it has never got old. People are still in love with Damian Lewis’ Major Winters and his Easy Company and thousands of families and friends enjoy a Band of Brothers marathon (multiple times!) every year.

To celebrate the the mini-series, HBO had Roger Bennett host an official Band of Brothers 12-episode podcast that followed the Easy Company’s footsteps from Normandy to the Eagle’s Nest, episode by episode, with insight from Tom Hanks as well as actors who brought the members of Easy Company to life  – including Ron Livingston, Donny Wahlberg, Matthews Settle, Scott Grimes and our beloved Damian Lewis.

Believe It or Not: Damian Lewis Will Drive Sheep Over The Southwark Bridge

“As a proud London Welshman, playing the drover and driving my sheep, as if from Llandeilo, across The Thames, will be a career highlight. Can’t wait”.

Well, I don’t know if Damian has been waiting for this day to come but I certainly have since…

…the day he received the Freedom of the City of London honour in recognition of his achievements as an actor in March 2013 at London’s Guildhall.

Freedom of the City of London is one of the oldest surviving traditions still in existence today. The first Freedom is believed to have been granted in 1237. According to Wikipedia, being a “free man” in old times came with certain privileges, varying from the right to drive sheep and cattle over London Bridge to carrying a naked sword in public. Throwback Thursday: Back to School with Damian Lewis

Well, it’s that time of the year! Most kids around me and, of course, not only kids, but also adults like me, whose job is teaching from Pre-K to university, are all going back to school… well, sort of… remotely… with hopes of going back to normal in the spring semester.
