New Project Alert: A First Look at Damian Lewis in A Spy Among Friends

Kim Philby is arguably the most famous – or should I say infamous? – secret agent of all times. He may not be as well known as James Bond, but in contrast to 007, Philby was a real-life spy and the most successful member of the Cambridge Five, a group of spies recruited by the Russians to pass information from the UK to the Soviet Union during the Second World War through 1950s. A charming and brilliant Cambridge graduate, he quickly rose to the top of the counterintelligence unit at the MI6. He became the head of the anti-Soviet unit, served as the MI6 chief in Istanbul and ultimately became MI6’s Washington-based liaison with the CIA. Having his confidantes at MI6 and becoming close friends with James Angleton, a rising star at the CIA . While his betrayal got some of his colleagues into big trouble and took several Soviet defectors to their deaths, nobody suspected Philby for years. And when some at the MI5 flagged him, his colleagues at the MI6 and the CIA came to the rescue. When they finally had the evidence to confront him, Philby had already provided secret information to the Soviets for 30 years!

How was Kim Philby able to deceive his colleagues, the people that were closest to him, the people whom he socialized with and, in particular, drank with – Philby was an alcoholic! – for decades? And, more importantly why? What was the main motive behind his decision to become a double agent? Continue reading “New Project Alert: A First Look at Damian Lewis in A Spy Among Friends”

Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis Voicing the Statue of George Orwell

His voice. That distinguished, recognizable voice. Yes, THAT voice. Whether it’s soothing poetry reads, children’s bedtime stories or a narrated documentary, we know that voice! I’ve often said Damian could sell me a tube of toothpaste should he ever voice a commercial ad, whether Crest, Colgate, Rembrandt – hell, take your pick. And you can bet your last dollar the company stocks would soar soon after the commercial aired…so much so, Bobby Axelrod would be proud.

Many of his U.S. fans think his British accent alone is dreamy, but combine that with his velvety tone, it’s Mozart to anyone’s ears – always with the right amount of inflection, emphasis and dramatic pause. And perfectly modulated to portray emotions of wrath, bewilderment or exhilaration. That is our beloved Damian Lewis.

In November, 2017 the Guardian announced that Damian would be voicing the talking statue of George Orwell! Continue reading “Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis Voicing the Statue of George Orwell”

How Similar Are You to Damian Lewis? How Different Are You from Damian Lewis?

Having been born not just in the same decade, 1970s, but also within a year of each other, Damian and I have similarities like riding our bikes up and down the street when we were kids, or listening to music on our Sony Walkmans when we were teenagers. But then there are other things we have in common that I think are more surprising, and it may also be fun to talk about stuff in which Damian and I are complete opposites… So, shall we start with the similarities? From Charity to Sports to Theatre: We Know What Damian Lewis Did During The Covid-19 Lockdown! *UPDATED*

I am going to have a summer.

This is how Damian promptly responded to a lady who asked him at The Goat stage door back in May 2017 about what he would be doing between The Goat and Billions, whose shoot would not start until September. And that was his first full summer with family since Damian constantly worked summers between 2011 while he was shooting Homeland to 2016 when they started shooting Billions shoot in July.

And he was probably pleased with the results that this is the fourth summer in a row Damian has spent with family but also the first he spent mostly at home, like the rest of us, due to Covid-19 pandemic. Damian was filming Billions in New York when the pandemic arrived in the US. As they took a break from filming mid-March, he came back home, and has had a spring and summer bookended by two important Covid-19 activities. 49 Fun Facts about Damian Lewis

Damian Lewis is 49 years old today! Happy Birthday!

Damian is my fellow Aquarian. And if you believe in horoscopes — I cannot say I do but I enjoy reading them — then 2020 will be a GOOD year for us 😀But, honestly, when it comes to Damian’s year, we don’t really need to read the horoscope, the tea leaves, or having grown up in Turkey, the coffee cup for him 🙂

Firstly, we are looking forward to the premiere of Billions Season 5 on Showtime! The series has already become the premium network’s second biggest show ever after Homeland and guess what — there is only one lead actor that has played in Showtime’s two biggest shows! 😀 Damian Lewis:Spy Wars, Damian’s first experience in factual TV, is coming to the Smithsonian Channel, a joint venture between Showtime and the Smithsonian Institute, sometime this year. And the two films Damian completed in 2018 and 2019, namely Run This Town and Dream Horse, are coming to a theater near us in March and in May, respectively. So we can only imagine the possibilities 2020 may bring…

Happy Birthday, Damian! You make 49 look so damn good and we have decided to celebrate your day with 49 Fun Facts about you!
