Hey Damian, I Loved You as Soames Forsyte… There I Said It :)

PBS Masterpiece, in collaboration with Mammoth Screen (known for Poldark and Victoria), has commissioned a brand-new adaptation titled The Forsytes that is arriving on the small screen in early 2026. It seems that this  version will blend historical elegance with modern sensibilities, and is being positioned as a returning series with multiple seasons planned.

That said, I will hold Damian Lewis’ portrayal of Soames Forsyte close to my heart forever. His magnetic performance in the 2002 Forsyte Saga remains legendary.

The Forsyte Saga chronicles the lives of the leading members of a large upper-middle class English Family. Only a few generations removed from their farmer ancestors, the family members are very much aware of their status as “new money.” The main character, Soames Forsyte is nicknamed as a “man of property” in the family by virtue of his ability to accumulate material possessions — but this does not bring him pleasure in his marriage to his beloved Irene or in life in general.
