Billions Season 1 Dining Guide: Eat like a Billionaire or without Breaking the Bank

source: Showtime
source: Showtime

I know I am a broken record but Billions is a dream coming true. Not just because it is one of the most, if not the most, smartly written show in the history of TV. Not just because it is bringing my favorite actor Damian Lewis to my screen. But also because it is being shot in NYC, my favorite place on earth: Let me put it this way. If I had not blogged about Damian Lewis, I would probably have blogged about New York, in particular about its fantastic dining scene since my husband and I are crazy foodies. He loves to cook and we both love to eat. That is why NYC dining scene making some memorable appearances in Billions, from some of its “special occasion” restaurants to yummy hole-in-the-walls to cozy neighborhood joints to dining landmarks and take-out places, makes me SMILE big!

So, here is our Billions dining guide as a thank you to the show for showcasing the dining capital of the world in the best way possible: Some of these places are my NYC favorites and I believe, being the forensic fan that I am, I have been able to figure out almost all of them using hints from the scene as well as Google and, hey, Google earth, too! 🙂

I describe each restaurant as the one with what we see happening there (the one with being my tribute to another all-time favorite show Friends) attach a pic of the scene as a refresher and a link to restaurant website as well as its Yelp review where available. By the way, if you don’t have Yelp on your smart phone, download it now, it is free and comes very handy!

I really hope you have a chance to try one or several of these places and send us feedback. Please let me know if I am missing anything and I am happy to work on it.

Bon Appetite!

Episode 1: The Pilot

The one with our first meeting with Bobby:

Bruno’s pizza joint, Capparello’s was Axe’s go-to place when he was a kid and he is still a regular. Bruno seems to be a father figure to him. And, hey, I am a believer in San Marzano tomatoes, too.

You know, pizza is serious business in New York and hats off to Damian for eating his NY slice so authentically! Babbo: Italian Fine Dining. Now this one deserves more than a mention. Not just because it is a NY staple or it is the flagship restaurant in Mario Batali‘s dining empire. But also because it’s one of my favorite restaurants. I am a pasta monster and, Babbo, as far as I know, is the only fancy place with a pasta tasting menu. It’s certainly a special occasion place but it is PERFECT for any kind of celebration. You cannot go wrong with anything on that menu but I highly recommend the Beef Cheek Ravioli – it is out of this world!

  1. A food recap! Could I love this blog any more?
I LOVE Maialiano! Everything about it. The entrance through the hotel. The distinctly rustic style decor. And the food. OMG.
You could create your own “Billionaire Dining Crawl” expedition on NY Meetup (hint, hint).
Thank you for making my heart leap (Damian) and stomach growl ( Old Town Bar) .

I only read two blogs about shows because I am picky, picky about my time and what I read. Good writing delights me so much. Thanks for making my day with your words.

(BTW- my other favorite blogger writes about my most favorite show Penny Dreadful. A show with the most gorgeous writing with the same script intelligence as Billions: https://ozgeburcaka.com/blog/2016/05/01/penny-dreadful-2×7-little-scorpion-photo-recap/) Forgive the plug. But the blog is so very funny. Penny Dreadful is so intense I need the brevity smooth the terrors exposed.)

    1. Thank you so much! I LOVE “Billionaire Dining Crawl” idea! Absolutely! I just love all the Italian places they have in Season 1. Babbo. Maialiano. Perla. I am a TRUE pasta monster these are some of the best places to go for the best pasta in the city!

How can I thank you for making us one of the two blogs you are reading? This is one of the best compliments we have ever taken! Thanks for making our day with your words, too! And I will definitely check Ozge’s blog (I think I said this before, Ozge is a Turkish name, and I am from Turkey, too, what are the odds? :D)

    1. Thank you! Well, maybe we should include White Castle as a Bobby favorite 🙂 And thank you for “Ruggie and Cones.” I will make sure to add it asap. I believe it was in the episode Donnie goes missing. Am I right?

  2. This is making me hungry! Big complement. It also helps to further emphasise the importance of food on this show. They are telling us something!

    1. I am telling you, partner, you really really should come visit and we eat at most of these places! <3

    1. I am so happy you enjoyed this – thank you for reading! And, yes, of course! I try to identify restaurants / locations and add them into my episode recaps weekly, but yes, I will do Billions Season 2 dining guide at the end of the season!

    1. I tried to include the bars as well — e.g. Barrow’s Pub and Gold Bar. I will put together one for Season 2, too. Because I love NY so much it is such a pleasure to put these posts together. Thanks for reading!

      1. Looking forward to that. There’s one episode where Chuck is eating something with Adam DeGiulio (where the latter says he loves to hear the skin crackle) and I’m trying to figure out what the hell they were eating in that one.

        1. They are eating Peking Duck at Peking Duck House 🙂 I am working on Season 2 Locations Guide (to be published on May 22) and Dining Guide (to be published on May 29) at the moment.

          1. +100 internets for you, my friend. I’ve been wondering about that for months.

  3. Just watched Boasts and Rails again. Any idea what the “Star Wars shit” is that DiGiulio is drinking in his morning meeting with Chuck?

  4. Great post, enjoyed it. Just thought I’d let you know that the link for the Hunt and Fish Club leads to a guns for sale forum.
