Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis as a Teacher? Yes, Please! *UPDATED*

Recently, Romesh Ranganathan reminded Damian Lewis that he once said he wanted to be a teacher. Damian’s response? He laughed and said he probably gave that answer to the classic question: what would you do if you weren’t an actor? Still… it’s not a random answer. Because in many ways, he’s already done it. Damian also mentioned that he’s given acting masterclasses over the years—sharing what he’s learned with younger actors. So this feels like the perfect moment to revisit one of those: the masterclass he gave to young stage actors during his West End run in The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? back in 2017. Professor Lewis, anyone? We’re taking notes.

Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis in “The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?”

I wrote this post just after the closing night of The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? back in 2017 and updated it once. While it feels like yesterday, I published it more than eight  years ago — so it truly deserves a Throwback Thursday.

Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis in “The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?”

Well, 12 weeks were gone with the wind and The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? has now closed. And, as if we need another reason to celebrate Damian’s work, I would love to take the closing of The Goat as a unique opportunity to celebrate 12 weeks of Damian Lewis on stage. Damian Lewis taught a free masterclass this spring for young actors aged 16 – 30, as part of the Masterclass, the brilliant in-house charity of the Royal Theatre Haymarket for the last 19 years.
