As a thriller set in exotic locales and shot with a quick eye designed to keep you on the edge of your seat, Our Kind of Traitor, does not disappoint. I saw the film on Memorial Day in a full house amidst the film festival crowd at Seattle International Film Festival. That is to say, I was amidst folks who know movies, and I’m happy to report there was no shortage of gasps and leaning in, getting to the edge of the seat, throughout the theater. The film had many strong notes and some not so strong. Here’s my review! Some spoilers, but nothing that’ll kill your wanting to see it for yourself – the film is set for general release in the US on July 1.

Revisiting Life with Charlie Crews

When our new blogger Holliedazzle had the idea to do a summer re-watch of Life, we were intrigued. “We’ve never had the opportunity to dig into this show with a lot of detail, and I think the readers would really enjoy to watch along with us this summer and talk about the episodes,” she said. “And with it being on Netflix, that helps a lot with people’s access to the show,” she added. We were sold. Both Damianista and I had a binge watch at different times in our shared tour of all things Damian. Bookworm had a far deeper relationship with the show…it took her by the hand all the way to fanfic land! The two season series straddled both ends of the 2007-08 television writer’s strike, and we see tweets roll by nearly everyday bemoaning the fact that it was a great show with a lot of promise which somehow never got the chance. So, yes, let’s give Life a revisit! In the following weeks, we’ll be talking about Life, S1 and S2, every Tuesday. To inaugurate our series on the series, here’s a bit of a summary review.

Speculation Redux: Billions – Guns in a Pool

Damian Lewis, Bobby Axelrod
Source: Showtime

A slice of pizza here, a perfectly coiffed pompadour there, and badda bing badda boom Damian Lewis has transformed himself into a born and bred New Yorker. Let’s visit the ways and means by which he’s achieved the transformation. This post originally came about as speculation fueled by some tantalizing previews we got late last year, before Billions first aired in the States. Now that we have our friends across the pond tuning in every week, speculation has gotten a new lease on life. Some gems from Brit Twitter so far:

And my personal favorite:

So here we are, a revisit to my post “Billions: Guns in a Pool and the False Bravado of a New Yorker” with some notes added here and there without being too spoiler-y for those who didn’t splurge on the Sky Atlantic box set.

Billions on Sky Atlantic, Episode 2: Naming Rights

Great fun hearing the excitement from across the pond as folks have started watching Billions! I was happily following along on Twitter to the live tweets for The Pilot. Much easier to simply read and not think of cleverness to write at the same time.:) How lucky you are to be able to get the Sky Atlantic box set now and binge the entire series in one go. We Yanks had to wait for our weekly fix!
