Desert Island Discs with Gingersnap

Desert Island Discs (DID) is a BBC Radio 4 Programme where invited guests share the soundtrack of their lives. Specifically, eight music tracks, one book and a luxury item.

What would you take with you to a deserted island? Better yet, what did Damian choose?

Here’s his selections:

Happy Birthday, Helen McCrory! TOP DOZEN Reasons to Love Her

“Actually, I’m looking forward to being 50, because to me that’s when a woman is at the pinnacle of her femininity and her womanhood.” —Helen McCrory in an interview with The Independent

Thanks to interviews with Helen in The Telegraph and The Times, we found out about her 50th birthday celebrations!

“He (Damian) took me to the Wallace Collection. He got the gentleman in charge to give us a tour, which was my idea of heaven. Then we went to a hotel that will remain nameless, then home.

When I came down to dinner, my whole family were there and a load of friends. Damian is very good at throwing surprise parties. And because I always dress up, I just happened to have on a 1920s backless blue velvet evening gown with a pair of old Fila trainers.”

So, Damian, we do not know if you are throwing another surprise party for 52, but here we are throwing a birthday party for your better half on the blog. Continue reading “Happy Birthday, Helen McCrory! TOP DOZEN Reasons to Love Her”

UPDATE 08/14/2020: It is THAT time of the year again 😀 While I have been living in the US for the last 24 years, I come back to my native Turkey every summer to visit my mom and my extended family. And while I thought I would not be able to travel to Turkey this summer due to Covid-19 pandemic, here I am in Izmir, my hometown, after an adventurous flight… Continue reading “Summer Means Damian Lewis in Brides For Me and Here is WHY”

Desert Island Discs with Damianista

I identify a lot of things in my life with music. Almost every piece of music I love reminds me of some sweet moment, and sometimes a bittersweet one from a particular time in my life. I associate my memories with music so much so that I believe we all should have a life soundtrack. And I know my husband would tell you mine should be the soundtrack of the movie Amelie! 😀

It has been pretty easy to identify the pieces of music that reminds me of Damian, who is a very musical man, or several characters that he brings to life. The only challenge has been to limit the list to eight. I have done my best to choose the eight I feel most strongly about and I hope you enjoy them! Damianista’s Dream Role for Damian Lewis

I was very lucky to meet Damian Lewis in person for the first time at Cheltenham Literature Festival in October 2014. I probably stood out as the crazy fan at their book signing after his and Helen’s brilliant performance of reading love poems to each other from Allie Esiri’s The Love Book compilation. The Brits are proper. They do not ask for photos. I think I was the only one in that long queue who asked for a photo but also for a bit of his time citing that I came all the way from North Carolina – his state of residence for six months every year between 2011-2013 thanks to Homeland – to meet him!
