Wolf Hall in Wool!

These few weeks have been pure pleasure thanks to Wolf Hall! I just can’t stop thinking, talking and writing about it… And, it is just amazing that Wolf Hall inspires us in all different ways… So, it inspires me to write constantly… write about my own year-long Wolf Hall journey, about codpieces and the internet frenzy it has created, about Leading lady of Wolf Hall, in defense of “skinny” Henry, and many more… I am so full of ideas that I sometimes think my head will explode if I don’t sit down and type…

And…  Wolf Hall inspires this amazing lady, Denise Salway — you may know her as @KnittingWitchUK on Twitter — to knit 🙂

Denise says she “feels lucky to have recreated the stars of Wolf Hall in wool!”

Well, she started with Henry’s six wives!

We, her Twitter followers loved them! And she let us know that Henry was a work in progress…

And Henry arrived shortly after! Brilliant.

My, my, my, this is not just a BRILLIANT Henry but he also looks very much like our Henry in Wolf Hall!

This is my tweet about the knitted Henry:

knittingtweetYes, Denise storms the Knitting World,  seriously, this is MAGICAL!

I asked Denise how she was inspired to knit Henry and his six wives, and she has said: “I love history, and historic places, and I am a royalist. I did Queen Victoria before Christmas.”

Meet Queen Victoria!

It turns out that Denise also knitted Queen Elizabeth II and sent it to her as a gift. She later received a kind letter from the Queen’s lady-in-waiting talking about how much the Queen loved her design. Moreover, Denise’s knitted Duchess of Cambridge…

…made it into the papers. How neat is that!

I also asked Denise if she was planning to send HenryVIII as a gift to Damian Lewis. She said she could, but first she should have the address to send, and also that she keeps the originals, and makes another one and send if the actors ask for it. Hey, Damian, hope you don’t miss the opportunity!

UPDATE 02/08: Denise has just added Elizabeth I to the Tudors collection: Well, Henry would be proud of his daughter 🙂

Ah, and the pleasure of seeing Thomas and Henry together 🙂 PRICELESS! Thanks so much, Denise, for sending me this photo and brightening my morning!

UPDATE 04/16:

And NOW… Denise has made a very HANDSOME gift for Damian Lewis! She wanted Damian — who is a unique talent — to have a unique Henry and so, instead of making a copy of the original Henry, Denise designed and knitted a NEW Henry for Damian Lewis!

And, we are unveiling it today — Say HI to Henry!

We believe this handsome wool Henry will very soon make it into Damian Lewis’ hands and we very much hope that it will put a big smile on his face!

UPDATE: September 16, 2015

Denise got word from Damian’s PA Michael in May that Damian has his Henry in his dressing room at the Wyndham’s Theatre during his successful American Buffalo run! And, we hope the wonderful wool Henry brings lots of luck to Damian luck at the Emmys 😀

Please visit Denise’s wonderful portfolio, varying from Gandolph to the Tudors to Kim Kardashian, on her Flickr page and follow her @KnittingWitchUK for constant knitting updates!
