The Many Faces of Damian Lewis: Part 2

Sometimes an actor will find themselves type-cast, and the reasons for this can vary greatly. It can be the fault of a narrow-minded industry, a lazy agent, an iconic role that they find impossible to be divorced from, or simply from the actor’s own lack of range.

We are all lucky to be fans of a man who has not experienced this. Damian has had the pleasure of embodying many different types of men. And while so many of these characters have some sort of overlap(just how many times has he put on a military uniform now??), he has used his incredible skill set to create a different, iconic character in each role. Specifically, I want to talk about how he uses his body language to create believable characters that resonate. Continue reading “The Many Faces of Damian Lewis: Part 2”

The Many Faces of Damian Lewis: Part I

Hello all! Damianista here.

We are extremely pleased to welcome a new blogger, Holliedazzle, today to our blog. Here is a short bio in her own words:

“A life long lover of gingers, Holliedazzle hails from the midwest and spends her free time cosplaying, indulging in all her geeky interests, and also on the stage as a burlesque performer!  Also a mother to one sweet little boy, and wife to her own foxy ginger man 🙂 She discovered Damian through her husband’s recommendation to try out this new show “Homeland”, who starred an actor that had been on his radar since “Band of Brothers” became one of his all-time favorite shows.  So, really, its all his fault that she’s here!” 😛

Having enjoyed Holliedazzle’s spot-on commentary on Damian’s acting on the blog, we asked if she would be interested in writing about Damian’s acting, in particular about the ways he uses his face and body in bringing our all-time favorite characters to life. We are delighted she has kindly agreed and is giving us the many faces of Damian Lewis today. And it goes without saying we sincerely hope to keep her around for more than two posts. Fingers crossed! Enjoy.

I am extremely happy today to introduce yet another section on the blog with two new brilliant bloggers: Welcome to Fiction Fridays with Bookworm and Misfit!

Bookworm and Misfit are two brilliant Fan Fiction (FanFic) writers that have been writing and publishing on www.fanfiction.net; and starting today, they will share their work — inspired by and based on Damian Lewis characters we love — here once a month.

Fan Fiction is a completely new world to me and it makes me think about a play called “Constellations” that I have recently seen on Broadway. In the play, one character explains to the other “every decision you’ve ever and never made exists in an unimaginably vast ensemble of parallel universes.” Take this and apply to fiction: A character makes a decision that takes him through some certain path, but there is, in fact, a number of alternative paths that he could have taken. I believe FanFic just does open our eyes to that “unimaginably vast ensemble of parallel universes” where, for example, my beloved Brody may be alive. I am not giving up, am I? 🙂

Welcome, Bookworm and Misfit, and cheers to sharing the FUN together for a long, long time!

Gotta Love Nicholas Brody in Popular Culture!

source: Showtime

Damian Lewis was already an internationally known actor before Homeland. Yet, Homeland brought him big stardom, made him a household name, and it turns out some manhandling in the streets, too! Damian talks a bit about his post-Homeland fame in an interview with Buzzfeed: “It can be aggressive, that kind of adulation… People can go a little bit crazy, so there’s quite a lot of manhandling in the streets. Now I know what it must have been like to be Brad Pitt for an entire lifetime, ever since he did that scene in Thelma and Louise where he took his top off — I’m straight and that scene did it for me as well.”

Hmmm… So… you sort of know you have made it when someone tries to… I don’t know… pinch you on the street? 😀 But, seriously, when do you really know your show or your character has really arrived?

Well… One obvious indicator is the ratings that a show gets along with the awards it receives… And, Homeland proved multiple times, in particular in its first two seasons, that it has been one of the best things that has ever happened to TV. How Keane gave us Brody and How Brody gave us Axe *UPDATED*

I am sure that, by now, you have got to know me quite well. Yes, I’m a little bit (ok, ok more than a little bit) obsessed with Brody… All roads do not lead to Rome, they all lead to… yes, Bravo, to Brody!

Now, I love William Keane, too. I LOVE him.

Because…

Did you know that if there had been no William Keane, there would have been no Nicholas Brody? I mean there would have been some Brody in Homeland, but not our Brody! Can you imagine? Continue reading “How Keane gave us Brody and How Brody gave us Axe *UPDATED*”
