Bobby Axelrod: The Boy Whose Dad Never Came Back

It is no secret I have been fascinated by Bobby Axelrodโ€™s backstory in Billions, in particular his family background. A few glimpses we had into the life of young Bobby in every season made me think hard and deep about his past as well as how that past seems to have shaped Bobby Axelrod’s life. I was able to see the trauma he went through in his relationships – from his marriage to his parenting to his friendships. And I sat down and wrote about Bobby Axelrod – the boy whose dad never came back. Continue reading “Bobby Axelrod: The Boy Whose Dad Never Came Back”

Billions Season 5: Expectations, Things We’d Like To See (or not!) and a Fantasy or Two!!

Hello from the Trader’s Desk!

I hope you all had a fabulous winter, and are ready to get Spring rolling with Axe, Chuck, Wendy and the gang! And, I hope everyone is healthy and staying safe!

As we all eagerly anticipate Season 5 of our favorite show, “Billions“, we here at Fan Fun thought it would be interesting for us to share some of our thoughts on the upcoming season. We’ve done this the past few seasons, and it’s always great at the end of the season to see how our predictions turned out.

Billions ‘Bridged: A Billions Parody by Kerr Avon

Greetings, ladies and gents. Welcome to my inaugural post on Fan Fun with Damian Lewis. Before we start with our little treat for you today, I should probably give you some background on myself and the type of parody I’m presenting here.

My name is Sebastian, but my alias both here and on Twitter is Kerr Avon. I am a longtime fan of Billions who up until now mainly contributed to the fandom with quippy tweets during the supporting cast’s live-tweet events and comedic parody scripts like the one seen here.

What I’m presenting today is an abridged series, which is a super-compressed retelling of a property — in this case, the pilot episode of Billions — with funnier dialogue. It’s most well-known in video format, typically satirizing anime, but there exist captioned versions for live-actions series which use screenshots what’s being presented below. Chuck Seniorisms by the Dozen, Part III

A Baker’s Dozen…and Then Some

You should know by now from my ‘Chuck Seniorisms by the Dozen’ย Part I and Part II that Charles Rhoades Senior is one of my favorite characters on Billions. He is played by the extraordinary actor Jeffrey DeMunn, who comes from a theatrical family no less! Buffalo News reported in March 2019 that DeMunn’s father Jim DeMunn and stepmother Betty Lutes DeMunn were two cardinal figures for many years in the local Buffalo theater.

Bobby Axelrod: The Boy Whose Dad Never Came Back, Part V

No one knows what it’s like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

No one knows what it’s like
To be hated
To be fated
To telling only lies

-The Who

Billions is returning to Showtime on May 3 Sunday at 9pm. While we cannot wait to have our show back on TV, it is time to talk a bit more about where we left our favorite characters and where we can find them at the beginning of Season 5. How about we start with Bobby Axelrod?

When Billions offered us a glimpse into the life of young Bobby Axelrod in Season 1, I was tempted to think hard and deep about this man, who grew up in a broken home and ended up marrying a woman sharing his blue collar background and raised happy kids. Well, this was who Bobby Axelrod was when I kicked off the series โ€œBobby Axelrod: The Boy Whose Dad Never Came Back.โ€ And the family man Bobby was what I truly liked about this billionaire who is utterly reckless when it comes to business.

I took a close look at Bobby Axelrodโ€™s human side mostly as a husband, a father, and a son in the previous seasons. We saw Bobby as a devoted family man evolving gradually into an oblivious husband and father; as a good โ€œsonโ€ to Bruno turning into someone who breaks his dadโ€™s heart when business is concerned. We also witnessed Bobby’s brief visit with his estranged mom after he listened to the monologue from Andolov about family in Season 3 Episode 10 Redemption. My first thought was that Andolov inspired Bobby to visit his mom. But when you think about it, Bobby’s visit is more about the vintage French magazines at his mom’s place that once belonged to his dad than about his mom herself. And the French magazines are for Wags โ€“ Bobby’s most loyal man and maybe his only family left by the end of Season 3. Continue reading “Bobby Axelrod: The Boy Whose Dad Never Came Back, Part V”
