Or should I say “Bobby Axelrod: The Boy Whose Dad Finally Came Back”?

The Opportunity Zone project in Yonkers brings Axe a golden opportunity not only for receiving tax breaks but also for facing his past. Big time. I knew Bobby’s dad was not a good husband or a good father. I mean the guy walked out on his wife and his 12 year old son, but still I never knew that Bobby has such a heartbreaking story where the wounds are still open and excruciatingly painful.

As he sits on the floor of his childhood room, a place where he thought he would never set foot again, Bobby shares with Wendy a story – this is not the entire story but only a glimpse into a very painful childhood –  about how it was back then. Bobby Axelrod in Billions Season 6 *UPDATED*

If you are not living under a rock, you know that Damian Lewis announced on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that he was returning to Billions! While we followed the clues and called it before everyone else that Damian would return to Billions, I believe the biggest clue we have had is Billions Season 6 itself. Here is what I wrote in my post back in April 2022.

“Now, the writers’ room not shying away from having characters mention Axe regularly makes me feel they do not intend for us to forget the character and they may even want us to compare and contrast him with Prince. And Bobby Axelrod still having a presence, if in spirit, in the show, gives me hope that he may show up again at some point in the next season – maybe not as a regular character but at least as a recurring one.”

BINGO! Variety has announced that Damian will be back for half of the new season – certainly a recurring role!

Throwback Thursday to a Beloved Billions Moment: The Fake Fight

A good hour of television absolutely starts with good writing and I pride myself in calling Willie Reale, the writer of Billions Season 1 Episode 10 Quality of Life, a genius way before I find out that he is, in fact, one! I don’t know if you are familiar with MacArthur Fellowships also known as “Genius Grants” but Mr. Reale is a recipient of this fellowship “in recognition of his ingenuity in creating theater and theater education programs for young people.” Bravo!

Quality of Life, with Donnie’s memorial service being at its heart, has a number of moving parts; however, Mr. Reale delivers the story seamlessly with a number of timely back and forths between the memorial service and all else going on and the episode’s director Karyn Kusama perfectly translates the writing into action. And, in my humble opinion, Brian Koppelman’s tweet sharing with us that the fake argument scene between Axe and Dollar Bill was Reale’s idea alone deserves standing ovation for this brilliant writer! Will Bobby Axelrod Come Back to Billions? YES HE WILL! (And We Called It!)

Well, ladies and gentlemen… WE TOTALLY CALLED IT! We followed the clues and called that Bobby Axelrod will return to Billions -maybe in a cameo, maybe in a recurring or regular appearance…and guess what ?!?! Damian Lewis was spotted filming Billions at the iconic Tower of London with Maggie Siff and David Costabile last Friday! No wonder Damian called us spies multiple times. Because we are 🙂
