Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: Down on the Bowery

“One stand-out highlight comes in ‘Down On The Bowery’, which effortlessly shows out the capability of Lewis’ voice and his commitment to the craft.” – Rolling Stone UK

Fan Fun’s Damian Lewis’ “Song of the Week” series has been getting a lot of love from the fandom — thank you all for the enthusiasm and support! If you missed any of the previous “Song of the Week” posts, you can catch up here.

This week, we’re diving into Damian Lewis’ first single, Down on the Bowery. Damian has shared what he intended with his debut album Mission Creep as follows:

“I wanted the album to give a sense of a journey to this point, from busking ‘til now. I suddenly had a lot to say. People will judge if it’s any good or not, but for me, it felt entirely natural.”

In chronological storytelling, Mission Creep takes us on a journey through Damian’s life and relationships. It begins with his busking years in Zaragoza, capturing the raw beginnings of his musical path. Then comes his first meeting with Helen in Soho Tango, and a song about her personality in Little One. The album also explores her dreams, as in Wanna Grow Old, reflecting her hope of growing old together in Paris. Later, Damian gets into loss and grief, with songs like Hole in My Roof, Makin’ Plans, and She Comes — each offering a deeply personal look at heartache and remembrance. Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: No Man’s Land

Damian playing “No Man’s Land” at Cyprus Avenue, Cork in Ireland, October 15, 2025

Hello! It’s Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week time again, and I’ve been on quite a journey lately. For the past several months, I’ve been happily immersed in Damian Lewis’ music — revisiting tracks from his debut album Mission Creep while also savoring a song from his upcoming record. I’ve been writing about these songs week by week, sharing whatever observations, insights and impressions I’ve been able to gather along the way.

Last week Damian appeared as a guest on Dave Fanning’s “Fanning at Whelans” on Virgin Media TV in Ireland, and the song they highlighted on Instagram just so happened to be one of my personal favorites from his upcoming album: “No Man’s Land.”

For some reason, Fanning at Whelan’s Instagram account does not allow me to embed the video so I am giving you the link to the video here.

The funny thing is: the first time we heard this song, it had a completely different name — “Love Bomb.” It was during the second leg of the UK tour in Stroud, and the whole room fell for it immediately… but especially my lovely friend Tsvete. Even without understanding all the lyrics, she loved the way the song felt. That’s part of what makes it so special. Some songs hit your heart before your head, and this is one of them.

Now that it’s officially called No Man’s Land, we’re all watching Damian’s next moves and quietly (okay, not so quietly) hoping it becomes the first single he drops from the upcoming album. Fingers crossed!

So today I’m happily handing the stage over to Tsvete for her take, along with a huge thank-you. She is one of the best things to come into my life thanks to Fan Fun — a true friend whose support, love, and encouragement I treasure. And if you’ve missed any of the earlier Song of the Week posts, you can catch up on them here. Continue reading “Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: No Man’s Land”

Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: Hole in My Roof

Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: Makin’ Plans

Welcome back, everyone, to another Damian Lewis’ “Song of the Week” feature! I’m excited to share my thoughts on yet another track from Damian’s debut album Mission Creep. And this time, it’s one where Damian plugs in the electric guitar. Let’s talk about Makin’ Plans.

But before we dive into Makin’ Plans, if you missed earlier posts in our Song of the Week series, you can catch up here. Continue reading “Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: Makin’ Plans”

Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: Suck My Blood

Here is how Damian introduced his new song ‘Suck My Blood’ to us on Instagram just in time for Halloween in 2023. And on the second leg of his Mission Creep UK tour in spring 2024, he debuted the song on stage. He shared with us, the audience, about The Radleys, a vampire movie that he recently made, in which he played a doctor and he introduced the song he wrote inspired by the movie and his role in it. And he definitely brought the house down with laughter in Stroud when he addressed a man in the front row leaving his seat for the bar or the loo.

“Sir, I’m not a real vampire.”

And while Damian talked about his role as a small-town doctor before debuting his new song, I think the song is less about the doctor he plays, and more about the doctor’s former academic twin brother that he also plays — Will Radley. Continue reading “Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: Suck My Blood”
