Bend it Like Damian Lewis, Part II

We talked about Damian Lewis as a BIG Liverpool fan earlier here. There is a bit more to that story — Damian is also a BIG fan of Steven Gerrard — for those of you that don’t know who that is: Gerrard used to be the captain of both Liverpool and England’s national team — he left Liverpool after 17 seasons to play for LA Galaxy this season.

Now… Does Damian go to Anfield to watch Liverpool play? “I go to Anfield”  he says, “but I am a southern armchair supporter mostly.” No wonder Match of the Day is on top of his recording list! And, according to an interview with the Daily Record, Damian once remarks his dream job would be to wear the Liverpool No. 10 shirt and clean Steven Gerrard’s boots. Oh yes… Boots! Damian Lewis, An Englishman in New York: 2015 Edition

It’s not a secret I LOVE New York! I moved to the city for my first job in 2001 just a few weeks before September 11, lived that big tragedy, and the strength and the resilience the city showed in the face of the attacks made me LOVE New York first… and the rest is history. My husband and I fell in love with what the city had to offer so much so that when we moved to North Carolina for new jobs after five years, we just didn’t give up on our tiny little apartment and we now spend long weekends and all our breaks in the city, in fact, the only city that I genuinely feel I belong to. Let me put my love for NYC in words this way: If I had not blogged about Damian Lewis, I would have blogged about New York City!

So… Imagine my off-the-charts thrill when I first heard Damian Lewis would make Billions in New York! It’s not just that I love New York and I enjoy everything it offers — from its world-class museums to theater to restaurants to Central Park — but I just LOVE it when people visit and enjoy New York. Rumor has it that Damian Lewis is in “the running” to be the next James Bond. What do I feel about it? My partner JaniaJania’s tweet says it all about what I feel:

It’s a rumor. So probably not true. But an EXCITING and FUN rumor. Because… well, Damian Lewis is Damian Lewis. If he became James Bond, he would bring to life a 007 that no one has ever seen before — yes “he’d be the most emotionally accessible and human superhero ever.”

Then again it’s a rumor and we don’t even have to take it seriously but why not have some FUN with it? And, of course, as the great man 007 himself said:

“Never say Never.” Continue reading “Name is Lewis. Damian Lewis.”

Desert Island Discs with LilMisfit

Music has always been an important component of my life. My mother sings in a choir, my brother plays saxophone, and I used to play flute. Not incredibly well, but still.

We’d always listen to the radio and blare my parents albums in the car when I was growing up. While my parents had diverse, all around great taste in music, it wasn’t until I owned my first CD player and later on my first iPod, that I really developed an appreciation for music. Listening to what I wanted, blaring my favorite songs on my headphones (at way too high a volume). I’d listen to discs and playlists on the bus to and from school and I’d be transported. I identify a lot of things in my life with music. Almost every piece of music I love reminds me of some sweet moment, and sometimes a bittersweet one from a particular time in my life. I associate my memories with music so much so that I, in fact, believe we all should have a life soundtrack 🙂

Thus, it has been pretty easy for me to identify the pieces of music that reminds me of Damian Lewis or some characters that he brings to life. The only challenge has been to limit the list to eight. I have tried my best to choose the eight that I feel most strongly about. Continue reading “Desert Island Discs with Damianista”
