Marry, Shag, Banish – Damian Lewis
Characters Version

It’s game time! Growing up I loved watching 70’s/80’s game shows. Remember these catch phrases?

“Come on down!”
“Survey says…”
“No whammies, no whammies, no whammies…and STOP!”
“I’d like to buy a vowel.”

And I’m in heaven with the recent revivals of Match Game, Celebrity Family Feud, and To Tell the Truth. I even DVR old Match Game episodes from time to time to watch my favorite panelists Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly like I did when I watched reruns as a child.

If it’s a game, you can count me in! I often host Bunco round-robins, hold Whiz Spades tournaments, and throw Mexican Train Dominoes events.  I am no emcee–I have to be in on the action and playing.  Games are great fun, whether spending family time together or as an added bonus to your dinner party with friends. Even drinking games like Never Have I Ever and Marry, Shag Kill are hysterical to play.

Which brings me to Marry, Shag, Kill (our version is Marry, Shag, Banish to an Island).

Whatever Damian Lewis Is In, They Will Watch: Christine, Joanne and Julie’s Stories

Hi everyone! Damianista welcomes you to a NEW Fan Story Tuesday.

We have another lovely “short and sweet” collective today from three wonderful fans, Christine, Joanne, and Julie, who “discovered” Damian in his early work, namely Band of Brothers and The Forsyte Saga. They certainly have one thing in common: they will watch whatever Damian is in 🙂

I really need to say a few words about Christine before I give you these wonderful fan stories. Christine is running a Facebook Page called Historical Fiction Miscellany. And if you like historical fiction I would highly recommend you to follow the page because here is some great conversation going on there. And I cannot thank Christine enough for letting us share our Wolf Hall recaps on her page when the mini-series was on PBS. JaniaJania and I had a real ball there and we cannot wait for Hilary Mantel finish the third book, we get our Henry and Thomas back for one more season, and more importantly, we pick up the great discussion with historical fiction aficionados on Historical Fiction Miscellany!

Massive thanks go to Christine, Joanne and Julie for taking the time to share their fan stories with us. Cheers! Continue reading “Whatever Damian Lewis Is In, They Will Watch: Christine, Joanne and Julie’s Stories”

Damian Lewis as Soames Forsyte

Strange to talk about a series that happened over 10 years ago, but discussing Damian Lewis’ oeuvre without touching on Soames Forsyte and the Forsyte Saga would just be incomplete. Gentle Means, the lovely fanfic we recently published from our talented guest blogger, Mel, got this character back front and center in my mind.

Imagine if you will, a 30 year old actor just returned from completing his first “Hollywood” venture, the most expensive series ever produced and shown on HBO, Band of Brothers. It was a hit! Everyone wants him! Everyone wants him to come back over the pond and play….another soldier. Word has it,  that Damian was offered a role in Blackhawk Down and turned it down to stay in England and play Soames Forsyte. One may speculate he told the casting folks that he can’t do it but his good friend and fellow Eton-ite Ewan MacGregor might be free. 🙂 Of course, Blackhawk Down was a great film, but, boy, we’re glad Damian said no. Another “Dark Horse” That Would
Perplex Damian Lewis: Mel’s Story

Hello everyone! Damianista welcomes you to a NEW Fan Story Tuesday!

Today’s story comes from Mel, a relatively recent fan of Damian, and a proud member of our very exclusive “Dark Horse” Club! In case you don’t know what I am talking about, here is Damian providing an explanation at Times Talks London back in 2014 😀

Well, even knowing Damian would not go out with us cannot stop us from loving Soames, would it, Mel? 😀

Big thanks go to Mel for taking the time from her extremely busy schedule (about which you will find out a bit in her story) to write her wonderful fan story for us and for her very kind words about Fan Fun. And we cannot wait to publish her “dark horse” fan fiction soon on the blog. Cheers!

How did Damian Lewis Become Soames Forsyte? *UPDATED*

We talked about how Damian Lewis became Dick Winters earlier here. Dick Winters is not only the first “American” that Damian brought to life on screen, but it is also the role that made him an internationally known actor. Accordingly, after his big success in Band of Brothers, Damian was offered roles in Hollywood, including a part in Black Hawk Down which he turned down to do… Well… The Forsyte Saga!

When asked in an interview with Now Magazine in 2001 about why he turned down Black Hawk Down, Damian Lewis jokingly says:

“I’d had enough of soldiering. Out of a cast of about 10,000, there was only one woman in Band of Brothers. So for my next job I wanted girls in it. I wanted the smell of sweet perfume wafting out from make up each morning.” 😀 Continue reading “How did Damian Lewis Become Soames Forsyte? *UPDATED*”
