Hi everyone! Damianista welcomes you to a NEW Fan Story Tuesday!

Today’s story comes from Petra, aka Lucky Fellow as she likes to call herself, a wonderful fan from Germany, who has been one of our very loyal readers and supporters. Our interaction with Petra is quite special since she always writes in German, and we google-translate her note to English and then respond. And how can you not LOVE this technology letting us overcome any language barrier and share our love and admiration for Damian Lewis regardless of who we are and where we are? And after all, we all speak the same language when it comes to Damian!

Petra sent me her fan story in German. I google-translated the piece and then did my best to polish it. I also sent a couple of sentences that google-translate did not do a good job with (word by word translation does not always work!) to Carolin, another German fan and friend, who very kindly helped me translate them. Summer seems to be the time when showrunners are heads-down working on writing next season’s episodes. Seems it may also be the time when those of us awaiting those stories can make up some of our own. I made up the following story last year when we were waiting for Billions Season 2. Enjoy!

Visit Back to “Somebody That I Used to Know”

The minute we learned that Homeland would be filming in New York City this year, an image immediately popped into my head. I tossed it around back channel a few times, and found the idea just wouldn’t go away. It persisted, demanding to be fleshed out in a bigger space than a chat window.

Now that Homeland S6 has started on Showtime, the thought of Carrie Mathison running into Bobby Axelrod is still haunting my watching of the show. True, Carrie lives and works in Brooklyn. Her world is obviously very different from the Midtown Manhattan, financial district, upstate NY, and Hamptons mansion world of Bobby Axelrod. Truth be told, the world of Homeland doesn’t seem as married to place as the world of Billions is. Carrie would be Carrie anywhere in the world. But Bobby, I’m sensing, is truly Bobby only within the borders of the Empire State. Regardless, this season, the two characters are within miles of each other, so why the heck not wonder about something totally improbable yet perfectly delicious to imagine? (Also, fun to note: Max is back this season after being gone the previous season of Homeland, and he’s in my story!)

Believe me, I realize full well that the idea is as soapy as heck. Nonetheless, still super (bittersweet) fun to visualize and a relief to get down in words. So, here you have it: a short fictional encounter, a one-shot if you will, between Bobby Axelrod and Carrie Mathison. Enjoy!

Obsession – the state of being obsessed with someone or something; an idea or thought that continually preoccupies or intrudes on a person’s mind.

When we watch a TV programme we do so to get away from the reality of our own lives. This could be considered a tad ironic as we then become totally engrossed in and obsessed with the ‘reality’ in whatever programme we are watching. We start to react to what is happening on the show and talk about character’s problems as if they are real. One of the reasons for this is simply that, while this character is fiction, their problems may resonate with us and we start to root for that character as a result. We have the desire to see our favourites come out on top and get their way in a way that maybe we cannot. Continue reading “Divergent”
