Remembrance 2016

Band of Brothers is a masterful series that taps into every possible emotion that you can feel and it pulls absolutely no punches when trying to display and emphasise the horrors the men and woman fighting in World War II faced.

Band of Brothers sets out to remember those who served in World War II and show us what they had to endure. There is so much for each of us to take from the series, but my own impressions are that the intention was not to glorify war or to paint these men as superhuman.

There is a touching moment (among many) in the extras when Major Dick Winters quotes a passage from a letter he received from Sergeant Mike Ranney, “I cherish the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day when he said, ‘Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?’ Grandpa said ‘No…but I served in a company of heroes’.” Continue reading “Remembrance 2016”

Throwback Thursday: “Back to School” with Damian Lewis

backtoschool

It’s that time of the year! Most kids around me and, of course, not just kids, but also adults like me, whose job is teaching from Pre-K to university are all going back to school!

Happy School Year to students, parents and teachers!

And… as I connect everything happening in the universe somehow to Damian Lewis, “Back to School” time desperately calls for a post that will take us back to Damian’s EARLY school days! Continue reading “Throwback Thursday: “Back to School” with Damian Lewis”

Happy Birthday, Helen!

A little note: This is a collective effort from the team in throwing a birthday party for Helen on the blog. Hope you all enjoy it!

It’s quite easy to figure out why Damian fell in love with his better half: Beauty, talent and brains, a rare combination, seem to have come together and stolen our guy’s heart. The couple has been together for more than a decade, married for nine years — we wished them a Happy Anniversary more than a month ago here — and going as strong as ever! Their affection for each other is obvious, you see in them that familiar comfort couples have with each other…

Happy Anniversary to Damian Lewis & Helen McCrory!

I have been married for quite some time (20 years in two days!) and my husband and I don’t care much about wedding anniversaries… We somehow feel our wedding day is just the day we “legally” became a couple and what we do is take the day we started dating as THE DAY to celebrate 🙂

So… I am clueless about whether Damian Lewis and Helen McCrory are big on celebrating their wedding anniversary but one thing I know is that even if they are not celebrating, an entire nation is celebrating on behalf of them 🙂

Happy Father’s Day to Damian Lewis

No doubt many people get married and start families because it’s the thing to do, a natural progression in life. Not everyone takes the time or effort to really think about what it means to bring new life into the world or go forth on the venture with conscious intentionality. How many times have we heard (or ourselves thought) David Byrne’s immortal refrain:

And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife. And you may ask yourself: Well…How did I get here?

Following Damian as we do on this blog, we’ve seen at every turn that he seems to have entered his current life with full intentionality. You sense, in his various relationships prior to Helen, what we know of them, that he was always quietly in search of someone to settle down with, someone to have children with. Not all men think this way, I’m guessing, particularly attractive men who have no shortage of female attention. A lot of guys fantasize about the attention that Damian has always gotten, right? So, if you’re lucky enough to be Damian Lewis, why settle down? Why let a woman and the resultant children cramp one’s playboy style? But, no, Damian, even though he IS Damian, wanted the wife and the house and the family. And how beautiful the stories we hear and the images we get of him in arguably the most important role of any man’s life, the role of father. Here are some of our recollections of Damian being a Dad.
