Life Season 2: Episodes 4 – 6

We continue our Life series with the second season.

Episode 4 Not for nothing

The episode takes its title from the surveillance recording Charlie has of an unidentified male having a conversation with Jack Reese and it is there we begin with Charlie so absorbed in listening that Ted has to answer his phone. It is Reese calling as they have a case.

Charlie and Dani are called to investigate the death of a student who was taking part in a psychology experiment where some students take the role of guards and others take the role of prisoners. Destro was a guard. The Professor running the experiment ensured it was being filmed, but there was a blackout and that is when the murder took place. The other guards and students are now suspects. Life with Charlie Crews: Episodes 9 & 10

Episode 9 – Serious Control Issues

Charlie Crews is a nuisance to those who conspired in their various ways directly and indirectly to put him behind bars. He refuses to go away, he refuses to be controlled and he will not stand for others being controlled either.

Ted declares him crazy as Charlie lays out the contents of ‘the conspiracy wall’ on their breakfast table, it having being saved by Ted from a police raid the previous episode. Charlie has come to the conclusion that Rachel was in the house at the time of her parents and brother’s murders, contrary to the Police report. He has some drawings from Rachel’s files after the murder and picks out a drawing that seems to him to be a child’s drawing of the murderer. Regardless of how crazy Ted feels Charlie may be about this, he also trusts him and when Charlie points out that Carl Aimes (lead detective on his case – and now dead) had a link to Jack Reese, swat leader at the Bank of LA robbery where a lot of money went missing, Ted is convinced.

Charlie knew off the bat that Dani was troubled like him and here he knows that the boy we are introduced to as ‘Nate Hastings’ is too.

The Many Faces of Damian Lewis: Part 2

Sometimes an actor will find themselves type-cast, and the reasons for this can vary greatly. It can be the fault of a narrow-minded industry, a lazy agent, an iconic role that they find impossible to be divorced from, or simply from the actor’s own lack of range.

We are all lucky to be fans of a man who has not experienced this. Damian has had the pleasure of embodying many different types of men. And while so many of these characters have some sort of overlap(just how many times has he put on a military uniform now??), he has used his incredible skill set to create a different, iconic character in each role. Specifically, I want to talk about how he uses his body language to create believable characters that resonate. Continue reading “The Many Faces of Damian Lewis: Part 2”

The Many Faces of Damian Lewis: Part I

Hello all! Damianista here.

We are extremely pleased to welcome a new blogger, Holliedazzle, today to our blog. Here is a short bio in her own words:

“A life long lover of gingers, Holliedazzle hails from the midwest and spends her free time cosplaying, indulging in all her geeky interests, and also on the stage as a burlesque performer!  Also a mother to one sweet little boy, and wife to her own foxy ginger man 🙂 She discovered Damian through her husband’s recommendation to try out this new show “Homeland”, who starred an actor that had been on his radar since “Band of Brothers” became one of his all-time favorite shows.  So, really, its all his fault that she’s here!” 😛

Having enjoyed Holliedazzle’s spot-on commentary on Damian’s acting on the blog, we asked if she would be interested in writing about Damian’s acting, in particular about the ways he uses his face and body in bringing our all-time favorite characters to life. We are delighted she has kindly agreed and is giving us the many faces of Damian Lewis today. And it goes without saying we sincerely hope to keep her around for more than two posts. Fingers crossed! Enjoy.

Desert Island Discs with TBkWrm

Music evokes emotions and memories in all of us.  It can stir up the urge to flee a room if the piece of music evokes bad memories. It can get us bouncing up and down as we enjoy ourselves or it can relax us. Following on from Damian and Damianista, it’s my turn to do Desert Island Discs.

Song 1 – ‘It’s my life’ by Bon Jovi

This song is Charlie Crews. It is loud and outspoken as he is. It demands your attention. Charlie Crews loses 12 years of his life through wrongful imprisonment for the triple homicide of his best friend, his (best friend’s) wife and one of the couple’s children.  Constance Griffiths eventually arrived on the scene several years into his sentence to take up his case. She manages to have his conviction quashed and Charlie once again walks the streets of LA as a free man…and a Detective of the LAPD. Charlie is determined, despite the terms of his release, it should be mentioned, on catching those who actually killed his best friend and family. He leaves everything financial in his life to his right hand former cell mate and accountant, Ted. Charlie faces all of the problems that come with the fact that the outside world had moved on, whilst his daily life for 12 years consisted of having the crap beat out of him and not really going anywhere or developing as a person. Laterally, Ted and Constance’s presence in Charlie’s life as he approached the end of his prison hell will have helped him, but Charlie shows the mark prison left on him as he has no problem ruffling the feathers of anyone who gets in his way on the outside. The sort of people that most people would be terrified of defying or facing up to. Charlie quite likes going against what is seen as the natural order.  In fact, the more feathers he ruffles the happier Charlie seems. Though admittedly all those women might help too…
