When is it a bad time to bring up Damian’s turn at Shakespeare? Why, never, of course! We’ve yet to see him live in a Shakespeare production, but, thanks to The Guardian’s video series, we got the next best thing. Continue reading “Damian as Antony”
“Marry someone you love and someone who you like. I am incredibly lucky. We are constantly apart and in stimulating situations; it’s feast or famine.” –Helen McCrory
It is no secret we adore this couple and we are extremely pleased to end this year — exactly like we did last year — with some TOP Damian & Helen moments 2016!
Well, it is obviously not easy to be two ridiculously talented actors living together and raising a family. I remember Damian telling us at Cheltenham Literature Festival that the problem never goes away:
“When you’re two actors living together, you’re always asked to do work away from your home, so you just have to decide which ones are important enough to go and do away from home and try to spend the rest of the time together.”
Today’s Top Moment of the year is one that still comes up in Damian’s Twitter timeline, many months after it was first released, a brilliant short video of Damian reading Marc Antony’s “Friends, Romans, countrymen” speech from Julius Caesar for The Guardian’s video series Shakespeare Solos. Several lit profs have tweeted thanks to Damian, remarking that they use his speech when they teach the play. Actually literature professors and acting teachers alike have found something remarkable in Damian’s prescient delivery. It’s a master class, both on the role of the speech within the play and on acting.
Hey, it’s THAT time of the year again! We have “Best Of 2016” lists wherever we look: Best Books of 2016, Best Movies of 2016, Best Albums of 2016 and so on… And, it is our utmost pleasure to jump on the “Best of” wagon with our TOP Damian Lewis Moments of 2016! We’d just love to take the last ten days or so of the year to reflect on the wonderful year Damian has had personally and professionally and hope to make you re-live those moments and SMILE and SMILE BIG!
We don’t intend to rank the top moments as many “Best Of” lists do. And we just pick moments in which, we believe, Damian shines as a brilliant actor, a wonderful storyteller, a true gentleman or just a guy who knows to have a good time!
One of my best friends from high school, who lives in Istanbul, and I, who live in the US, make a decision to meet somewhere in between and choose London as sort of a mid-point. We buy our tickets in February for our very anticipated London trip in May. And now that I am back from the trip, I just can’t help congratulate myself for randomly choosing the BEST week in May to be in London!
First: The weather. Four consecutive days of sunny, summer-y weather!
Second: The Tube. My friend and I take the Tube everywhere. And, at some point, we just cannot stop giggling since one certain ginger greets you everywhere, and I am not exaggerating a bit, everywhere you go! The Tube door opens and here is Damian looking at you either from an Our Kind of Traitor poster or a Billions poster. You sort of feel he is following you everywhere you go. FUN!
And it is not just limited to the Tube. The pic on the upper right hand side is from Camden Town. Bobby Axelrod lets you know Billions is coming to Sky Atlantic May 12 at 9pm.
