A Small Community Theatre Duo: Paige’s Dream Role for Damian Lewis

source: Times Talks

One of the most rewarding things about doing this fan blog is meeting fellow fans with whom you hit it off immediately. And Paige is certainly one of them. We first met online but then in person at Damian’s Times Talks in New York back in summer 2016 and have been in regular touch since then. Damian made Times Talks a special treat for the audience with his delightful stories and brilliant sense of humor. There was a lot of laughter in the room and I believe Paige and I provide concrete evidence in the picture below 🙂

Paige is not only a great Damian Lewis fan, she is also a brilliant blogger. You should definitely check out her blog Maximum Tuneage and read about how she almost did anything for Damian Lewis and why I am her walking .gif 😀

Paige wrote down her dream role story months before Helen sadly passed away and she casts Damian and Helen together – isn’t it perfect dream casting? Huge thanks go to Paige for taking the time to share with us her dream role story.

My dream role for Damian is something that I thought would make a great series for a while now, and he’s always been the actor I envision in one of the lead roles.

The show would focus on a small community theater, and every month or so, the denizens of the theater would put on a different show. That would provide the opportunity for guest actors to come in every four episodes or so, but it would revolve around a once-beloved English actor and his wife, who own the theater and thusly star in all of the productions, and the staff of the theater. While the couple had worked on stage and on film together for years to great acclaim, they don’t get  along as well as they used to. But they’re forced to stay together for business’ sake, since no one else is coming a-callin’ at this time in their careers — with comic-book movies taking over screens and up-and-coming talents stealing their respective stage spotlights.

So Damian would be fabulous for the male lead in this enterprise. And originally I pictured Gillian Anderson to be the perfect complement as his wife. But what I’d really like to see now is Helen McCrory in the role. How much fun would it be to see them spitting insults at each other as the embittered spouses, but then making it all come together when it counts for the benefit of their plays.

I even have an idea for the closing credits, in which the cast basically dances it out over a different pop song each week as the names roll on the screen. Damian would just have to do an Elvis impersonation for us in this scenario.

Well, that’s my dream role, can’t wait to see everyone else’s!!
