Metropolitan Museum of Art is, for me, the CROWN JEWEL of all art museums in the United States. It has an amazing collection of art from all different periods and different places in the world that one of my favorite pastimes is to go to the MET and just get lost and indulge myself in the incredible art for the whole day.

We are visiting one of the curatorial departments in the museum,  the MET Costume Institute today for our Throwback! MET Costume Institute holds a very high-brow annual Gala Benefit every year. And in honor of their 2018 Gala next week, I propose to travel back to May 2013 when a certain someone stopped by the museum for the event!

Here is what the MET website says about the annual Gala:

The fashion industry funds the work of The Costume Institute, including its exhibitions, acquisitions, and capital improvements. Each May, the annual Gala Benefit, its primary fund-raising event, celebrates the opening of the spring exhibition. Under the leadership of Trustee Anna Wintour (Artistic Director of Condé Nast and Editor-in-Chief of Vogue), who has been co-chair since 1995 (excluding 1996 and 1998), the gala has become one of the most visible and successful charity events, drawing attendees from the fashion, film, society, business, and music industries. The brainchild of publicity doyenne Eleanor Lambert, the benefit was introduced in 1948 as a midnight supper and dubbed “The Party of the Year.” Co-chairs in past years included Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (1977–1978) and Patricia Taylor Buckley (1979–1995).”

Ok… We are on the Red Carpet!!!! Oh God, now I feel like one of those tacky women asking “And… what are you wearing tonight?”

Here is Damian Lewis, ladies and gentlemen, with his lovely wife Helen McCrory at the 2013 Gala themed “Punk: Chaos to Couture.”

Damian Lewis is sporting “a Prada black kid mohair single button shawl collar tuxedo and a white popeline shirt, a black silk studded tie, skull cufflinks, and black spazzolato studded shoes.”

I LOVE the almost punkish hair, and HEY look at those PUNK SHOES… so in line with the Gala Theme! Well done, Damian!

I love it that the tie also has studs on it…

I was really curious about Damian’s shoes that I actually looked for them (no, no, not to buy a pair for my husband, yes I am a bit crazy, but I am not that crazy) and they are called Prada Spazzolato Studded Slippers and they were available at Saks Fifth Avenue. Feel free to do a very close 365 degree examination below but don’t have your expectations high, they are  SOLD OUT 🙂

I don’t think the gestures from Damian and Helen below are to tell us it is not that easy to go buy a pair of those shoes 😀 But they are obviously having a real FUN evening at the MET! And, hey, Mr. Darcy!
