Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis in The Escapist

Ever since I first saw In the Name of the Father with the ever brilliant Daniel Day-Lewis in college, I’ve been fascinated by Kilmainham Gaol. This old prison is an important part of Irish history—many Irish rebel leaders were locked up and executed there. It’s also a famous movie location, used in some of the best films about Ireland’s past. So when I finally got the chance to visit the museum during Damian’s mini-tour, I was beyond excited. I was also proud that I knew almost all the movies our guide mentioned: In the Name of the Father, Michael Collins, The Wind That Shakes the Barley, and of course—The Escapist. So shall we talk about that one?

Ireland, You Were Something Else: Damian Lewis’ Mini-Tour of the Emerald Isle

Damian has recently taken to Instagram as above to reflect on his mini-tour of the Emerald Isle. And now that I reflect on my own week long trip to Ireland to follow Damian and the band from Cork to Dublin to Limerick, it was so many train rides, so many hotel rooms, so much gray skies, and so little sleep! And it was all WORTH IT for the fantastic music, fun chats, pints of beer and big laughs with people I adore! As I put in the title: Ireland, you were something else! Damian’s mini tour was packed with energy, good vibes, and those up-close moments that make live music so special.

Now that I’m back and have recovered from jet lag, I am ready to tell you all about how Damian ruled on stage and off – he made time for everyone, his guests and his fans, after the gig. He had pictures taken with them, gave autographs as well as bear hugs.

Holy Damian 🙂

The smaller venues made it easy for Damian and the band to mingle with the crowd after each gig, rather than hosting guests backstage — which, I think, made the whole experience so much fun for the fans. I met so many wonderful people on the tour, and I have to say, the Irish are truly special — so friendly, so kind, and always ready with a smile. I don’t know how many times each person thanked me for the “I was there” magnet that I gave them. Continue reading “Ireland, You Were Something Else: Damian Lewis’ Mini-Tour of the Emerald Isle”

Do it Like Damian Lewis: HELP Raise Awareness for EB on EB Awareness Week!

It’s EB Awareness Week – a week to raise awareness about this terrible skin condition and the impact they have on patients’ lives. The primary target of the campaign is the general public; however, it is very important to raise awareness among policy makers, researchers, health professionals and anyone who has an interest in Epidermolysis Bullosa. And we would like to take this opportunity to raise awareness as well as funds to find a cure for EB, one of about 7,000 rare diseases for which there is no cure.

Well, most of you know Damian Lewis is a proud patron of Cure EB.

Patron Damian Lewis with Cure EB founder and CEO Sharmila Collins and young EB patients on BGC Charity Day 2024

The kids that are born with Recessive Dystropic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB) or EB for short lack the protein that holds their skin together. They have extremely fragile skin that they are sometimes called “butterfly children.” Lots of activities we take for granted as easy routines in our daily lives are a struggle for them. Can you imagine a day where your dressing up takes up to two hours and eating and drinking cause blisters in your mouth and throat? These kids have to deal with this kind of pain every single day. Besides, they are under extra risk to develop skin cancer later in life and their life expectancy is not very long. Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis Receiving The Britannia Award

Always the Ham

A significant moment for Damian in 2018 was receiving an award for his artistry. I do not shy away in saying he is the most talented actor of our generation and it seems BAFTA LA agreed. Damian received the well-deserved and long overdue BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Award for Excellence in Television on October 26, 2018 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

The Britannia Awards are BAFTA Los Angeles’ highest accolades, recognizing both outstanding British talent and exceptional international artistry through an actor’s body of work. It’s no secret around here that Damian is talented and exceptional – for more than a decade and a half he has enticed and intrigued audiences with highly complex, compromised, flawed characters he has brought to life on television, from steadfast Dick Winters, constipated Soames Forsyte, and quirky Charlie Crews to damaged Nicholas Brody, radical Henry VIII and currently, the ruthless Bobby Axelrod.

But where did it all begin?
