Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis at Game for Grenfell

We are traveling back to the last days of summer 2017 today with Damian playing in Game for Grenfell, a football match organized to raise funds for all families affected by the horrible Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017 that caused at least 80 deaths and more than 70 injuries. This special charity football game attests to our favorite guy’s talent in sports, his generous heart as well as his fun personality. Hope you enjoy it.

Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: Such a Night

“A third cover from the record, Dr. John’s “Such a Night”, has the right amount of groove nailed to it and is well worth a listen.” – Music Republic Magazine

“Such a Night” is a New Orleans funk and R&B song by Dr. John, released on his 1973 album In the Right Place. Known for its distinctive swampy groove, infectious piano playing, and Dr. John’s signature raspy vocals, the song tells a mischievous tale of unexpected romance. It was a commercial breakthrough for Dr. John, produced by Allen Toussaint, and featuring the funk band The Meters. The song is also famous for its iconic performance in Martin Scorsese’s documentary The Last Waltz, where Dr. John joins The Band for the live rendition. And Damian has it as a bonus track on his debut album Mission Creep.

So… yes! We’re talking about “Such a Night” this week!

REDUX: Backstage with Damian Lewis

The King and I 🙂

As we can’t wait for Damian to return to stage with guitar in hand in the fall, I just want to go back to the second leg of the “Mission Creep UK tour” and give you some backstage shenanigans! I missed all of this fun, or what? Continue reading “REDUX: Backstage with Damian Lewis”

Throwback Thursday to ‘Keane’ Screening and Q&A at Film at Lincoln Center

Grasshopper films giving Lodge Kerrigan’s beautiful movie Keane a 4K restoration and bringing it back to life on big screen across the US is a highlight on its own. And when the 4K restored Keane screening at the Film Society of Lincoln Center is coupled with the director and the actor Damian Lewis intoducing the film together, watching  it with the audience and doing a lively Q&A after the screening makes it very special!

I feel very privileged to have shared that beautiful evening – full house at Francesca Beale Theater – with Mr. Kerrigan, Damian and my fellow independent movie fans. The evening felt  like a collective celebration of independent cinema. I can’t believe it’s been three years since it feels like yesterday.

Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: Wanna Grow Old in Paris

This is called ‘Wanna Grow Old in Paris’…

Who doesn’t, right?

– Damian Lewis at Hoxton Hall

Indeed.

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to share a “Song of the Week” post last week—but I promise I had a very good excuse: a four-day getaway to Paris! As my t-shirt proudly declares below, “Paris is always a good idea.” And it truly is—one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world.

I felt incredibly lucky to revisit Notre Dame, to be dazzled once again by the Impressionist masterpieces at the Musée d’Orsay, to get lost on the side streets of the Latin Quarter, and to have a drink (or two) at the legendary Café de Flore.

All of this brings me to today’s choice for Damian Lewis’ “Song of the Week”: Wanna Grow Old in Paris. Because really—who wouldn’t?

Here’s what Damian had to say about the song when he dropped it as the first single from his EP, which came out just after the Paris Olympics last year. Continue reading “Damian Lewis’ Song of the Week: Wanna Grow Old in Paris”
