Billions on Showtime, Season 7 Episode 1: Tower of London

Advance Warning: This is a long review. I wanted to touch upon everything that happened in the season premiere because it sets the tone for the season… And I also wanted to re-visit a thing  or two from Season 6 as a reefresher. I just missed writing about this show so much ! So please bear with me – ENJOY!

One episode in and my mind is spinning. Season 7 may turn out to be the most Billions-y Billions we have ever seen!

My one word review for the season premiere: WHOA.

Longer version follows. ENJOY! Continue reading “Billions on Showtime, Season 7 Episode 1: Tower of London”

Bobby Axelrod and Wendy Rhoades: A Special Relationship Part X

“They don’t get to have the sort of youthful unvarnished romance after all the things they’ve done and been through. They were too much victims of their circumstances to slip away into the sunset. The reality of the world they created is the world that is stopping them from getting together.” – David Levien, co-creator of Billions

So I am picking up where I left Bobby and Wendy last week in the middle of Season 5.

Bobby is now obsessed with Wendy. And when he invites Wendy and Tanner to a sushi dinner, it is not to show his appreciation for the artist but to observe them as a couple and understand what Wendy finds in Tanner, so that he can take action to ruin their relationship. I find this utterly unhealthy.

Bobby, who is paying utmost attention to Wendy as she cannot keep her hands off Tanner, talks about the viewing party he is planning for the series of paintings Tanner is creating for him!  While Tanner prefers not to attend the party – it seems he and Wendy talked about this before – Wendy shares that Tanner cannot stand the “bullshit interpretations” of his paintings.

Voila! Bobby now knows what Wendy likes about Tanner! And as he calls Tanner “the mythical incorruptible artist” we all know that he is being sarcastic. Bobby Axelrod believes that that everyone is corruptible – if you pay the right price… and now he will do anything to prove to Wendy that Tanner is not the man she believes he is. YIKES! Bobby Axelrod in Billions Season 6 *UPDATED*

If you are not living under a rock, you know that Damian Lewis announced on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that he was returning to Billions! While we followed the clues and called it before everyone else that Damian would return to Billions, I believe the biggest clue we have had is Billions Season 6 itself. Here is what I wrote in my post back in April 2022.

“Now, the writers’ room not shying away from having characters mention Axe regularly makes me feel they do not intend for us to forget the character and they may even want us to compare and contrast him with Prince. And Bobby Axelrod still having a presence, if in spirit, in the show, gives me hope that he may show up again at some point in the next season – maybe not as a regular character but at least as a recurring one.”

BINGO! Variety has announced that Damian will be back for half of the new season – certainly a recurring role!

Billions Season 7: Expectations, Things We’d Like To See (or not!) and a Fantasy or Two!!

We hope you all are having a fabulous summer and are ready to get fall  rolling with Chuck, Prince, Wendy, Taylor, Wags and, yes, AXE!

We did not write any episode recaps for Season 6 since this blog is not about Billions but about Damian Lewis’ work. And now that he is back, we are thrilled to resume our weekly Billions recaps and analysis! Some of us are also watching Season 6 one more time (I admit I watched it  closely but not with the obsession I typically did when Damian Lewis was on the show!) to remember where we left our characters. I highly recommend everyone to catch up with Season 6 since, without question, some new characters introduced in Season 6 as well as several storylines will re-appear in the final season. Moreover, while Bobby Axelrod was not physically there in Season 6 he has a constant presence in the season. And now that he is back, WE ARE BACK, TOO!

As we all eagerly anticipate the final season of our favorite show, we here at Fan Fun want to share some of our expectations, wishes and fantasies on the upcoming season with you and get us all in the mood! Bobby Axelrod and Wendy Rhoades: A Special Relationship Part IX

“Since the moment you set your sights on Axe five years ago, you have orchestrated a perfect plan to impel us together, which makes no sense. Unless someone knows you, which I have.” — Wendy  to Chuck

Damian Lewis and Maggie Siff  bring to life one of the most intriguing and complex relationships we have ever seen on TV. It is sincere and it is strategic. It is friendly and it is flirty. It is personal and it is professional. It is delicate. It is difficult. It is delicious. The first three seasons reveal no romance in the relationship, but a real partnership. Bobby and Wendy find meaning in what they built together and can draw the best out of each other. In case you missed my earlier posts on these two, you can read them hereherehere,  herehere, here, here, and here. In Season 4, we start to feel some romantic tension between them especially in the season finale where Wendy finds herself in Bobby’s guest bedroom after leaving the house she shared with Chuck… followed by a slowly blossoming romance in Season 5.

How come?

That is the question.
