TOP Damian Lewis Moments 2017: “The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?”

While we have no intention of ranking TOP Damian Lewis moments of the year, one extremely thrilling moment in 2017 — well, all 12 weeks of it — was to have our favorite actor back on stage in an incredibly strong performance in Albee’s The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? at Theatre Royal Haymarket. And we hope you join us in visiting the play’s 12-week West End run from previews to media appearances to jam sessions to stage door experiences. A Lesson in Rhetoric: Damian Lewis as Antony

To be filed in the category of “This is a guy who makes you want to go back to school”, we just learned and reported (on our lovely sister site damian-lewis.com) that Damian’s version of Antony’s funeral speech from Julius Caesar, for The Guardian’s video series Shakespeare Solos, was featured in a seminar on rhetoric. This wasn’t an avenue for literary criticism or drama theory, but a newsletter on effective public speaking.

How is speaking any different from writing and reading, you may wonder? Well, there are components to classical rhetoric, when dissected, can show you what makes one speech different from another. Such an analysis would reach your brain (or at least attempt to). Alternatively, we can talk about how a speech makes you feel. Granted we’re not seeing much great oratory from our current elder statesmen, so examples are few and far between. But, there was a time, wasn’t there? In our not too distant history, when a leader spoke, it did a heart good to hear, didn’t it?

All Her Big Loves Came as a Shock. So did Damian Lewis: Petra’s Story

Hi everyone! Damianista welcomes you to a NEW Fan Story Tuesday!

Today’s story comes from Petra, aka Lucky Fellow as she likes to call herself, a wonderful fan from Germany, who has been one of our very loyal readers and supporters. Our interaction with Petra is quite special since she always writes in German, and we google-translate her note to English and then respond. And how can you not LOVE this technology letting us overcome any language barrier and share our love and admiration for Damian Lewis regardless of who we are and where we are? And after all, we all speak the same language when it comes to Damian!

Petra sent me her fan story in German. I google-translated the piece and then did my best to polish it. I also sent a couple of sentences that google-translate did not do a good job with (word by word translation does not always work!) to Carolin, another German fan and friend, who very kindly helped me translate them. Those of you from Michigan may know Cynthia from her program Stateside on Michigan Radio, part of the NPR digital network. Cynthia has had work experience in radio and TV for more than 35 years.  She has been a popular radio host, a TV news anchor, producer and a medical and consumer reporter. She has won a number of awards for her writing and reporting — including an Emmy! And, in addition to all this, Cynthia is a Damian Lewis fan. Big thanks go to her for being one of the first to respond to our call for fan stories and sharing this very special story.
