Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis at “The Outstanding Actor” Book Launch

In my experience, one of the best returns in an educator’s life is to see her former students graduate and thrive in their careers. It feels so good when a former student sends an email saying: “Hey professor, I had taken such and such class with you and then you wrote for me a letter of recommendation and I got into law school and now I am doing very well at such and such company. Thank you.” You simply feel you have, in fact, touched THAT life and in a very good way, too! I just cannot think of a better reward for an educator. Otherwise, what’s the point?

And that’s why it was lovely to see that Damian Lewis did write the foreword for his drama school teacher Ken Rea’s book The Outstanding Actor and giving a speech at the book launch party back in 2015 🙂

We Celebrate Damian Lewis as a Dad on Father’s Day

Damian Lewis is a fantastic actor. A generous philanthropist. He is a skilled player on the football field. And we have seen again in the recent Soccer Aid video that he can definitely sing. But, among all different hats he wears, that of fatherhood stands out as the most precious one. And how beautiful the stories we hear and the images we get of Damian as a father. So we’d love to share some of our recollections of him being a dad on this Father’s Day.

Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis in American Buffalo

Damian took  a long break from stage – 6 years – after he did The Misanthrope with Keira Knightley and Tara Fitzgerald at Comedy Theatre in 2009. And three seasons of Homeland, a season of Wolf Hall, three movies, an Emmy and a Golden Globe later, in 2015, he made a wonderful comeback to West End as Walter “Teach Cole” in David Mamet’s American Buffalo which went into history as the first (and second) time I saw my favorite actor on stage. Bookworm, in fact, identifies Paul Reynolds with the Queen hit: Don’t stop me now! She says: “What to say about Paul from Friends and Crocodiles? Paul has a big personality and the house to match. He has big dreams and plenty of ideas, but lacks the ability to coherently organise his life at all. He is known as a great host of great parties and has many colourful people in his life. A Misunderstood Genius: Gingersnap’s Dream Role for Damian Lewis

About this project: I started thinking what meaty role I’d like to see Damian play when I shared my idea with Damianista. She said go for it. I wrote my piece and it sat collecting dust waiting for others to think of their dream role. I had all but given up when Damianista wrote her dream role, and it snowballed from there. Now we have over 20 dream role contributions thanks to the fans! We started publishing the dream roles and then the unthinkable happened. Damian lost Helen. We lost Helen. The world lost Helen. Such a deep, deep wound. We needed to push the pause button for obvious reasons and we are now resuming the series, starting with mine. We will publish everyone’s dream role thereafter. Here we go (again)!

Chameleon. That’s the first word that comes to mind when I think of Damian’s acting abilities. He can play anything, and brilliantly so! Over the years many have proposed ideal roles they could see him portray.
