A Look Back to 10 Weeks of American Buffalo with Damian Lewis, Part II

In case you missed Part I, which is mostly about the actor, the play and the fans, you can read it here.

I, of course, have no idea about how stage actors organize their lives. I just know they work during prime time, that is, they WORK as we go out and eat and watch TV and go to the movies and thereby their routine should be different from us. I also remember Damian commenting on this very thing in the 5 Minutes with Damian Lewis interview:

So, I was really curious if life would sort of stop for our guy during his crazy 10 week long theater run with 8 performances a week — would he just shuttle between home and work?

Some actors may just do that, but not Damian Lewis. He is such an energetic guy that he filled those 10 weeks with a number of extra-curricular activities including one that is said to score 9 out of 10 in terms of stress levels.

Damian Lewis has said good-bye to American Buffalo in a tweet on Saturday just before his last two performances:

Sad to say good-bye indeed… 10 weeks were gone with the wind and American Buffalo is no more. It was super exciting to have Damian Lewis back on stage after six years and I sincerely hope — for selfish reasons — that he will not take such a long break from stage ever again! And, please, Damian, come to the Great White Way next time and make your American fans happy, too 🙂 Continue reading “A Look Back to 10 weeks of American Buffalo with Damian Lewis, Part I”

Take Route

TBkWrm

It has been remarked and, indeed, I remarked myself recently that one of Damian’s biggest strengths is the ability to say a lot without speaking i.e. he uses his eyes, his facial expressions and body language in general to convey his characters’ thoughts and feelings.   I found myself struggling with one of my fan fictions, at a loss as where to take it, when another idea fully formed popped into my head. I had originally intended for it to only be 4 or 5 chapters long, but it ended up being 14 chapters as it took on a life its own. It sprang from the notion of Damian’s ability to make his characters say so much without speaking…from a slightly different angle. Continue reading “Take Route”

Money, It’s a Crime

Set to start filming in July, Damian Lewis’ next project, Billions, pits a US Attorney (played by Paul Giamatti) against a sketchy hedge fund manager (played by Damian Lewis). The role affords DL again a chance to play a character he seems born to play: the unconventional hero, on the wrong side of what is thought of as conventional good behavior.

Damianista posted extensively of the stellar cast as it was announced in March. So here’s what we have for Damian’s Bobby Axelrod: A wife and kids, another woman of interest, an attorney on his heels. And for Damian himself: creator and co-producer Brian Koppelman tweeting his standing ovation Damian’s last day on the set of the pilot, Showtime promptly picking up a full season of episodes, trust exercises on set where Damian clearly does not let co-screenwriter David Levien down. All of this speaks to Billions being a must-watch series when it airs early next year. We know that DL has always been a stickler for researching his roles. His turn as Bobby Axelrod is, of course, no exception. So shall we look at some research we’ve seen him doing for the role? Yes, we shall!

You all know by now that Damian Lewis is a proud patron of Sohana Research Fund (SRF). We have already seen him fund-raising on BGC Charity Day, taking the EB Tongue Twister Challenge as well as talking to Dr. John McGrath, one of the leading experts in the field of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) research, to help raise awareness and find a cure for this very painful skin condition. Happy Father’s Day to Damian Lewis!

Well, he may not be the best on-screen father to Dana and Chris, but we know Damian Lewis is a GREAT real-life dad 🙂

How come we know that? No, our favorite guy does not go around saying how great a dad he is… His wife, Helen McCrory though tells Daily Mail:  “I realise how lucky I am, having talked to other mothers, that Damian gets involved in his children’s day-to-day lives. In two months of filming Homeland, he’s flown back home four times in his few days off. Although that’s tough on him, it makes such a difference.” Continue reading “Happy Father’s Day to Damian Lewis!”
