Happy Holidays with Damian Lewis and Helen McCrory!

Now that we have the Rockefeller Christmas Tree lit up, winter holidays are officially here! … and it’s the most wonderful time of the year 🙂 The beauty is in that everyone is celebrating something. It is Christmas, or it is Hannukah, or it is Kwanzaa, or it is Winter Solstice, or it is New Year’s or it is Festivus for the rest of us (Seinfeld, anyone?)… 😀

And, whatever you hold holy, Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays to each and everyone of you and may the Holidays bring all of you big smiles and good cheers as well as a happy and healthy NEW year with your loved ones and, please, some peace to the world!

So… why don’t we kick off the Holidays with Damian Lewis (with his Movember moustache!) and Helen McCrory switching on the Highgate Christmas Lights in Pond Square, London back in 2013?

The couple comes to the stage and Damian says:
“Hello, everyone!
Well, we live down the hill.
It’s very nice to be invited to the bright lights of Highgate.
We’re low lives from down the hill.”

And… lights! Or in Damian’s words: “One whole tree!” 🙂 See the clip – he’s hilarious!

So how does Lewis-McCrory household celebrate the holidays?

Helen talks about their typical Christmas morning and Christmas lunch to Red Magazine back in 2013 (Damian was still shooting Homeland) which is quite lovely and heartwarming.

“We love going out to get the Christmas tree together and putting it on to the roof of our car. On Christmas morning, I throw on whatever I can, Damian’’s T-shirt, for just running down the stairs to open the presents, but you’’ve got to dress up for Christmas lunch… I don’’t get stressed about it probably because I don’’t take any responsibly for it. Hopefully someone else will cook Christmas lunch, I’’ve still never done it. I’sn’t that awful? When you suddenly realise I’’m not cooking my own f***ing Christmas lunch and I’’ve got two kids and a husband. Maybe it’s just because I’’m a domestic cripple and I still can’’t cook.”

Don’t worry, Helen; it is never a problem when you have a good cook in the house… Believe me, I’m more than a domestic cripple, and I still can’t cook, either; but I have a good cook in the house, and I know you do, too; so… enjoy!

Hehe.

Helen says, in an interview with Woman & Home in October 2014, that she spends Christmas Eve like every other mother “frantically wrapping presents at 3am while my husband says, ‘Shh, I think one of them is awake!’ Most years we’ll drive across the country to enjoy the day with family. We might head to Wales to spend it with my parents, or Damian’s brother Willy and his wife will often host the entire Lewis clan. It’s great because you just arrive at this beautifully decorated home and sit around all afternoon eating fabulous food!”

It turns out she also makes her Christmas gifts. “I’ve done printed handkerchiefs for Damian, framed my own photographs and made things out of clay. I try to get children involved too. Both of them can sew – Manon’s even made her own dress – and they always make a Christmas decoration to hang on the tree.”

Sweet. Very sweet. <3

So we wish Lewis-McCrory household and all fans a happy and fun holiday season… May everyone find whatever s/he is wishing for under the tree 😀

  1. Now that is a fantastic use of that picture, I must say. All I want for Christmas…

Love that Helen emphasises she wears Damian’s t-shirt on Christmas morning and she’s never cooked her own Christmas lunch. Quite right.

This blog does bring some cheer. Thank you!

    1. Thank you! Cheer was what I all wanted to convey in this post and I am extremely happy if I have really been able to do it! I love winter holidays — the most CHEERFUL time of the year! And, hey, I was super-giggling as I was posting THAT picture <3

      1. Damianista, Jania Jania and the rest of the gang,
I am a daily follower (miss you on the weekends) and I love the blog. I would love to see a blog post on DAMIAN FOR KIDS or BEDTIME WITH DAMIAN (attention-getting title but not what it sounds like), which would expound on the adorable Damian reading the CBeebies bedtime stories like “The Baby in the Hat.” It might explore other performances he’s done that appeal to children (including his own). Don’t you think that would make a fun post?

        Lynda

        1. Lynda, thanks so much for your lovely words – fans like you keep us going and going! THANK YOU! Jania Jania already did a blog on Damian for Kids, and both Jania Jania and Bookworm did blog about Bill – a recent movie Damian and Helen appeared together, a movie their kids approve 😀 It would be our pleasure to explore bed time stories more and research more on performances he’s done for kids — and yes including Manon and Gulliver! 🙂 It would be a FUN post, and hey we are all about FUN, aren’t we? Looking forward to more feedback from you. Much love <3

        2. Bedtime with Damian gets my vote for blog title :). Lynda, I am glad you are enjoying the blog and Damianista is right, it absolutely would be our pleasure to explore this further. Thank you.

  2. What a nice welcome from the three of you! I’m glad that you liked the idea of further exploration of the bedtime stories. (I did enjoy your earlier posts on Phinneas and Ferb, Bill, and the reference & photos of CBeebies.). I could only view “The Baby in the Hat” – I think access is denied to those outside the UK – but it was so sweet that I hoped to see more. I’m a kid at heart and I have others to share the stories with. Looking forward to Billions – not for kids, though.

    1. Please don’t be a stranger and write to us anytime — all feedback as well as requests like this very sweet one about Bedtime with Damian Lewis (yes, this SHOULD be the title and we’ll thank you properly for that!) are much appreciated! The best thing about blogging is the feeling that we are doing this altogether. And, oh, yes, we are just so looking forward to Billions – roll on January! Much love!
