Well, we all know NEXT for Damian Lewis is the NEW Showtime Drama Series Billions that he is headlining along with Paul Giamatti. Damian Lewis takes on the role of Bobby “Axe” Axelrod — “a brilliant, ambitious hedge-fund king” and Paul Giamatti is Chuck Rhoades, “a hard-charging, whip-smart U.S. Attorney.” If this is not acting heaven, what is?
And, completing this acting heaven is some extraordinary talent, including Maggie Siff, Malin Akerman, David Costabile, Condola Rashad, Leonard Toby Moore, and Kelly Au Coin.
Brian Koppelman, David Levien and the New York Times’ columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin are writing the script and executive producing. Neil Burger, who is also an executive producer of the show, also directed the pilot episode.
This is what David Nevins, the President of Showtime, said about Billions when the network picked the show as a series.
We have just found out that Season 1 shoot for Billions is starting in NYC as early as NEXT WEEK thanks to a tweet by Toby Leonard Moore, who is playing Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryan Connerty in the series!
Brian Koppelman, one of the executive producers, in a Periscope appearance a few weeks ago, also told us that they were currently casting for the series in a good collaboration with Showtime.
Besides, there has been a number of casting calls for extras that you may enjoy hearing about and that can, in fact, make your imagination work! The calls vary from a call for women with full-length gowns, to massage therapist types, to farm worker types to Wall Street types with luxury cars to sexy cocktail waitresses — essentially covering all different bases of life! BIG thanks go to a great fan and now a good friend Lady Trader who has shared this information with us!
And, guess what, my imagination is already at work about so many possible story lines — isn’t this a huge chunk of the FUN?
UPDATE 07/10/2015: Brian Koppelman has just tweeted that they are starting with the first table read today… so it’s ON!
Damian Lewis, in a recent interview with Gold Derby, talks a bit about Billions:
Intriguing, huh? Ah, we had the BEST “cat and mouse” ever with Carrie and Brody on Homeland that some of us (me! me! me!) have still not been able to let go, but I am now so looking forward to this very different “cat and mouse” with US Attorney Rhoades and Hedge-Fund King Axelrod!
Well, lucky us, Showtime has just given us a little glimpse of this very highly anticipated “cat and mouse” in an amazingly fun TEASER!
Well… well… well… Bobby’s last line is just FABULOUS and I believe, it attests to the high quality of writing Damian referred to in his Gold Derby interview!
Damian Lewis absolutely gets THAT line and elevates it, too! 😀
I am pretty sure our “forensic fan” JaniaJania will tear this teaser apart for us analyzing it frame by frame like she just did for the new Queen of the Desert trailer; however, having seen the Billions teaser many times in the last couple of hours — I just can’t help going back, can you? — here’s a few very quick thoughts!
Ok, you will laugh at me but this is the first thing I have thought about… They filmed the pilot in January and it was probably the coldest January NYC has ever seen — at least it was the coldest January I’ve ever seen in NYC! So, did they have Damian jump into that pool at freezing temps or what? Oh, well, it’s probably a heated pool, but still… 🙂
I believe in relationships — complex characters having exciting, interesting and compelling relationships — as the main drive for any movie or show! That’s why it’s always the relationships that I focus on and try to read between the lines whenever I see a teaser, too!
Bobby and Chuck seem to start as foes from the moment they set eyes on each other.
Is Bobby giving THAT look to Wendy Rhoades (a wonderful looking Maggie Siff as Chuck Rhoades’ wife)?
Mr. and Mrs. Axelrod (Malin Akerman) seem to be love birds… But, are they really?
So… The teaser does exactly what it is supposed to do and raises a lot of questions whose answers we will be constantly looking for when Billions hopefully hits the small screen in early 2016…
In the meantime, as we keep making BUZZ for Billions and have fun with it, there is a couple of other ways for fans to have even more FUN!
Showtime now has a webpage for Billions as well as a Twitter account @SHO_Billions that you can follow for latest news and updates about the series!
And, there is a GREAT Billions fan group that you can join and chat about the show on Facebook and you can also follow them @Billions_F on Twitter!
Let’s make it BIG for Billions together!
